What’s natural about it?

Filed under: Food additives,Food Safety — Andrew Schneider @ 18:03

It’s already difficult enough for consumers to know what’s in the food they”re buying. If the meat industry gets its way, USDA will allow use of labels saying “naturally raised” to be placed on meats from animals who did not “spent their drug-free lives freely roaming the fields of a family farmer, eating wild flora and fauna, and being (at least somewhat) humanely slaughtered,” or so says the Organic Consumers Union. The group is urging shoppers to send their views on truthful labeling to the government.

USDA has extended the period for public comments on the labeling of “natural meat” to March 3 and this link will explain (in pure government speak) how to express your views. Good luck.
